2008 Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic

The 2008 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic National Chimaine and Chiangus show and sale proved to be another successful event for Chi enthusiasts. The quality of the cattle consigned was excellent, even though the number of consignments were down from last year. Beautiful weather made for a great weekend for everyone involved.

The Chimaine and Chiangus shows were the highlight of the Cattlemen’s Classic. The overall Chi sale average of $4,080 was the top sale average of all breeds for the Cattlemen’s Classic. The Chimaine females averaged $4,527 and the Chimaine bulls averaged $4,460. The Chiangus division had fewer animals exhibited, but the quality was still high. The Chiangus females averaged $4,000 and the Chiangus bulls averaged $2,720.

The Chi events started Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 2008, with the National Chimaine show. Kevin Jensen, Courtland, Kan., did an excellent job evaluating the Chi cattle.

The Grand Champion Chimaine Female was Lot 14 – Gretas Grace exhibited by Emma Schaunaman, Holt Brothers and Kearns Cattle Company, Aberdeen, S.D. This female had many fans in the crowd. Gretas Grace is an own daughter of HBSC Greta 224M, the all time high selling animal at the Cattlemen’s Classic at $30,000. Mike Hartman of Tecumseh, Neb., made her the high selling Chimaine Female as well as the overall high selling animal at the Cattlemen’s Classic at $14,000.
